Slip out of Prague Castle through the back gate into terraced gardens where the entire city unfolds below you — fewer tourists, better views, and a feeling of discovering something the tour groups missed.
Accessible from the eastern gate of Prague Castle, the South Gardens (Zahrada na valech) offer a peaceful terraced escape from the main castle crowds, with a superb view across the rooftops of Malá Strana and the red-tiled city below. The gardens wind back towards Hradčany Square through a series of terraces, and the walk is one of the most atmospheric exits from the castle complex.
